Individual therapy for adults · In person and online
At low tide, you can see
what’s been underneath.
I’m Maren Holt, a registered psychotherapist. I help adults slow down enough to notice what is really going on, and to work with it kindly.

About
A quiet room, and someone who is actually listening.
Most people arrive having coped for a long time. Things look fine from the outside, but underneath there is worry that will not settle, a loss that has not been grieved, or a tiredness that sleep does not fix.
In our sessions we go slowly. We look at what comes up without rushing to fix it, and we build practical ways of living with more ease. I draw on emotion-focused, acceptance-based and psychodynamic approaches, and I adapt to you rather than the other way round.
Maren Holt, MA · Registered Psychotherapist
Nothing has to be fixed in the first hour. We start by looking at what is there, together.
What I help with
The things that are hard to say out loud.
You do not need a diagnosis or the right words to start. If something here sounds familiar, that is enough.
- Anxiety and overthinkingThe mind that will not switch off, the 3 a.m. replay.
- Grief and lossA death, a relationship, a version of life you expected.
- Burnout and work stressRunning on empty while still holding everything together.
- Life transitionsNew parenthood, a move, a diagnosis, an ending or a beginning.
- Relationships and family patternsThe same argument, the same role, decade after decade.
- Self-worth and self-criticismLearning to speak to yourself the way you would speak to a friend.
How it works
Three small steps. None of them rushed.
01
A short call
A free 15-minute phone or video call. You tell me a little about what is going on, ask anything you like, and we see whether working together feels right. No pressure either way.
02
A first session
Fifty minutes, in person or online. We talk about what brought you here, what you hope will change, and how we might go about it. You can say as much or as little as you want.
03
Steady work
Most people meet weekly or every other week. Over time we build on what we find, one stone on another, until things feel steadier on their own.

Questions
Things people often wonder about.
How do I know if we are a good fit?
That is what the free call is for. Most people can tell within a few minutes whether they feel comfortable. If I am not the right person, I will happily suggest someone who might be.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes. Online sessions take place over a secure video platform and cost the same as sessions in the room. You only need a private space and a reliable connection.
Is therapy covered by insurance?
Many extended health plans cover sessions with a registered psychotherapist. I provide a receipt after every session so you can claim it. Check the details of your own plan.
What happens in the first session?
We talk about what brought you here, a little of your history, and what you would like to be different. There is no test to pass and nothing you have to prepare.
How often will we meet, and for how long?
Usually weekly or every other week at first. Some people come for a few months, others for longer. We review how it is going together, and you can stop at any time.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, with the few legal exceptions every therapist must follow, such as a serious risk of harm. I will explain these clearly in our first session.
